Camel Rides

This perfectly-adapted beast is a popular choice with children, and rides can be arranged either from Marrakech, in the Agafay Desert, or as part of a longer itinerary taking in the sand dunes on the northern fringes of the Sahara Desert.

Desert Dune Camping

The desert is ideal for children and offers wide expanses of fun sand dunes to run up and down, camel rides and camp fires in an environment very different to what they will be used to. All of our trips down to the desert include a night in a Saharan tent camp where guests stay in traditional Berber tents. Comfortable, accessible, with great star-gazing possibilities for adults and children alike.

Mule Trekking

Hiking in the High Atlas Mountains is one of the most enticing reasons to choose to come to Morocco. A perfect way to experience rural culture which has hardly changed in centuries and an excellent educational experience for children. All of our treks can be accompanied by mules, so should your children get tired, they can hop on board.

Surfing

Morocco is one of Africa’s top surfing destinations, with options for wind surfing, wave surfing or kite surfing. We work with excellent surf schools on the Atlantic Coast where lessons and equipment are supplied. A good way to leave your children in the capable hands of someone else whilst you enjoy a break, or a great way to enjoy a fun activity together (ie. one where your children will get to laugh at you).

Hot air ballooning

A once in a lifetime experience, a flight in a hot air balloon is now possible from Marrakech. Starting at sun rise you’ll fly with an experienced European pilot over the Haouz Plains with panoramic views over the High Atlas Mountains. Not something you do every day of your life.

Moroccan Cookery Workshops

Perhaps more suitable for older children, we organise fun workshops where participants first shop for their ingredients in the souk (markets) before learning to cook a full Moroccan meal in a riad in Marrakech. When that’s done, all that’s left is to eat what you have created, washed down with a drop or two of local wine (although not for the children...).

Mountain Biking

Ideal for the teenage contingent, day trips can be arranged, downhill mountain biking from the ski resort at Oukaimeden. That translates to 30 – 40 km of downhill riding on rough jeep roads. Thrilling and fun, but with a level of technicality which is well-suited to children with an active spirit but without lots of off-road experience.

Dar Qamar

Child-friendly guest-houses

Our accommodation focuses on characteristic guest houses, and many have a great set up for families. One of our favourite riads in Marrakech has a completely private “annexe” with two bedrooms, and a third which is a lounge which can be transformed into another room, private plunge pool and roof terrace. Others have gardens and pools for children to enjoy and few Moroccan hotels have a stuffy atmosphere with respect to children.

Quad Biking

Quad biking in the Agafay Desert represents an extremely exciting activity for teenagers. Run by an experienced and very professional French couple, our quad biking contacts are well equipped to run safe day trips for youngsters. Children will be assessed as to their suitability for riding and if they are deemed unfit (through age or otherwise) they can be driven in off road buggies by an experienced driver.

Souks, souks and more souks!

Although children are not famed for their interest in shopping, the medinas and souks of the major cities in Morocco offer a completely new dimension and level of interest. We regular find younger children completely captivated by the colours, sights, smells, and sheer volume of interesting products in the markets of Morocco. Here you’ll find a level of friendliness and kindness towards children that you may not be used to back home!

History and Culture Shock

Morocco’s cities are steeped in history and offer an extraordinary wealth of cultural experiences for children. Need help with an upcoming history project? Short of examples for that forthcoming Geography GCSE?  Whilst fun, a trip to Morocco can be of great educational value too.

Horse Riding

In the Agafay Desert, not far from Marrakech, in the foothills of the High Atlas and on the beach and through the forests of the Atlantic Coast horse riding can be arranged. From half day excursions to treks of several days, and for beginners up to experienced riders, please enquire about details and how we can incorporate this fun activity into your itinerary.
