Get into the rhythm of the Sahara, camel trekking across the sublime Erg Chebbi
The 300m high dunes of Erg Chebbi, in the south-east of Morocco are the amazing setting for this trek by camel or on foot. This area of sand dunes is the most impressive in the Moroccan Sahara and marks the gateway to a vast desert of sand and stone stretching through Algeria to the east. This relatively gentle trek through hamada (stone desert), dunes and tiny palm oases provides insight into the timeless way of life of the Ait Atta tribe of nomads, and offers stunning scenery and glorious isolation in equal measure. En route to the village of Merzouga, at the foot of the dunes, we visit the Todra Gorge and our return takes us to the Draa Valley where we enjoy a night in luxurious surroundings in a guest house in the Adgz Kasbah. The it’s back to Marrakech, via the UNESCO site of Ait Benhaddou, where a comfortable and stylish riad in the medina awaits for our last night.
